Dark Shadows, the only soap opera to have focused completely on gothic storylines and the supernatural, demonstrates its wide range in this boxed residence with arguably one of its worst stories that will enventually transcend into one of its best. The “repertoire company” that is the cast of this distinguished exhibit, consistently turns in memorable performances throughout.

And speaking of expressionless characters, many bite the dust before the display switches over completely to Parallel Time. I won’t give away any–that’s half of the fun of the explain, to examine who will pick up bumped off. I will scream that Barnabas’ fangs return in gusto–which always makes things more enchanting. But without the incredible, talented cast–who choose the campy storylines very seriously–DARK SHADOWS wouldn’t be a cult classic. It’s Jonathan Frid, Joan Bennett, David Selby, Grayson Hall, Louis Edmonds, Nancy Barrett, John Karlen, Kathryn Leigh Scott, Lara Parker, Humbert Allen Astredo (who chews up the scenery as Nicholas Blair like nobody’s business) and Marie Wallace (one of my current actresses on the prove) who execute this demonstrate such a joy to eye. So if you savor a qualified gothic mystery with a bit of supernatural intrigue–and the occasional werewolf, warlock, witch or vampire–then I recommend that you tune in to Unlit SHADOWS. But beware–it’s highly addictive!

No one could ever accuse the indomitable Rod Steiger of being slow. His flamboyant portrayals are perhaps borne out of his dependable life highly strung, emotional space, where his characterizations are often passe as a release valve (remove his Napoleon in Waterloo, made shortly after his separation after ten years from Claire Bloom) . Here too his performance is galvanized through his emotions into an unforgettable roller coaster scuttle you’ll objective want to explain over and over. He plays a middle mature theater owner, who through a warped obsession with his mother, turns to killing women in the locality of a similar age. His theatrical background means he has access to a veritable Aladdin’s cave of disguises, a different one for each abolish. Here Mr. Steiger excels himself, it is all beautiful inferior really, but done with such comedic brilliance and be pleased as to become compulsive viewing. A masterful performance in a wholly spicy and extremely sad comedy: toothsome!
Nowadays, when it seems that a successful film has to be either a ample holiday or summer special-effects blockbuster, or a cheap independent circuit success, it makes one long for the days when grand films with obedient stories were made for modest budgets and provided a decent fragment of entertainment without overloading the senses. This dying breed of the movies is calm around, however, and although often under appreciated, should be sought out. One case in point is No Plot to Treat a Lady, a dismal comedy that combines a crime drama with the often amusing relationships men have with their mothers.
In spite of the film being a thriller, we know from the beginning who the terrible guy is. It’s Rod Steiger, who gets to really stretch and ham it up as a theater manager/serial killer who murders each of his victims in some strange disguise to salvage their trust. George Segal is the cop who must crack the case and, at the same time, fend off his wonderfully annoying mother, Eileen Heckart (whose running gag line, “Who ever heard of a Jewish cop? ” gets repeated over and over again throughout) . Steiger’s character is one of those vain killers who checks the newspaper for reports of his exploits and who takes to calling Segal when the facts are reported noxious or when he wants to taunt the authorities. Segal is rather bland, although it’s not really his fault since the role doesn’t give him worthy to do other than to react to the other characters, particularly his mother, Steiger, and Lee Remick, as his esteem interest and would-be victim of the murderer. Steiger goes device, draw over the top, but it works because the film has plot him up to be not only flamboyant, but overreactive to mother issues of his beget. His various disguises obtain odder and odder as the film moves along, and when it shifts from comedy into resolution of the crime mode, his character becomes that grand more menacing, not because he’s comic but because we learn, as Segal puts the pieces together, that he is honestly and truly deranged.
Remick serves as the breath of original air, only because her character is the only one who isn’t dealing with some sort of emotional crisis. The scene where she meets and charms Heckart is an overlooked comedic gem.

I rather like “Private Practice”. It’s often implausible, but that’s one of the features of escapist entertainment. The cast is talented and lovely. I’m looking forward to watching the fresh season. But I can’t give this first DVD site a beneficial review, because it objective isn’t a honorable value.

Due to the writers’ strike, Season One of “Private Practice” only had 9 episodes. A normal season is 22 shows. But this collection’s list designate is the same as for a rotund season. The producers, having taken a major financial hit by not having as distinguished advertising revenue as expected, are trying to recoup some of their costs from us by overpricing this location. I can’t condone that.
I rate this collection 3-4 stars for quality, but only 0-1 stars for value. That gives a combined rating of 2 stars: disappointing.
I absolutely esteem this reveal (I saw almost all of it when I was in America and thankful for that because Australia is last again) . It’s amazing and addictive and humorous and so savory. If I’m going to be completely objective, the main reasons I began watching this is because of Tim Daley and Taye Diggs. Especially Tim – he’s so cute. But I found myself getting really keen with the chronicle lines and the characters and now have a modern favourite point to.

After the initial episode of seeing the crossover from Greys to Private, we examine the first episode called In Which We Meet Addison, a Nice Girl From Somewhere Else (all the episodes are called In Which …) where she joins the Oceanside Wellness Group where she was offered a job. The clinic is mostly owned by one of her best friends in college. One of the other workers there is Dr Pete Wilder (Tim Daley) who throughout the season, she has a strong strong chemistry with. It makes for very curious situations. Some of the episodes are written by Shondra Rhimes so they mild have a Greys feel to them.
I have to say that I really like this more than Greys. The characters are all wonderful and complex and that helps perform this reveal titanic. I’m so lucky that I got to discover a lot of this when I was in America last year because as usual, Australia is tedious the rest of the world with most things and I have no clue when we are getting this. I impartial hope my copy of this dvd comes before we obtain to FINALLY search for it over here. I esteem this program and can’t wait to occupy the dvd. I highly recommend it.

There is no doubt that this film is filled with CGI aircraft effects, rigged explosions, questionable flying tactics, and conversation/terminology that you impartial don’t hear in a dependable training battle. To film that accurate aircraft’s ordnance hitting the target would have meant losing their camera and the film in the course of the explosion. The other thing is that the rigged explosings can be crafted to be especially “fiery” whereas staunch world bombs eye like gray, soot-filled explosions and don’t slit the mustard for the Hollywood types.

The last thing that really varies from the steady battle is the communications between pilots. This movie was designed as an insight into the main function of Nellis AFB and into the lives of USAF aviators and ground crew members for people like me who can’t relieve there country, but desparately want to. I suspect most fans of this film and Monty Python in general already have a copy on DVD. The bonus features in this novel double-disc edition definitely do it worth the bid catch. Most of the features from the Criterion edition (two commentary tracks, five deleted scenes, radio ads) are here. (The nice 1979 BBC documentary “The Pythons” is the only feature from the Criterion version missing from this fresh station.)

The unusual hour-long documentary included with this edition is worth the grasp alone. All five surviving Pythons are interviewed and offer a lot of insight into the film, from its belief, to the controversy surrounding its opening (in the US and in the UK), to its lasting standing as the Pythons’ greatest work. (Yes, I know, many fans like “Grail” even more.) I’m always contented to explore up-to-date interviews with the team, now all in their sixties.
The other important feature is an audio reading of the fresh script, recorded with all six members several months before filming began. This is powerful more delicious and watchable than you might request, illustrated onscreen with storyboard drawings and script pages. The reading is 20 minutes longer than the film, and you hear some bits that never made it past this stage.

This is the 4th iteration of this movie that I have owned. My first was on VHS, then came the Criterion LaserDisc, which was followed by the Criterion DVD edition. I really wasn’t expecting grand of an improvement over the Criterion DVD since this is an older movie. Regardless of what version you bear, if you are a Python fan, you are in for a Expansive surprise with this latest edition on Blu-ray. The represent is advance perfection with only a couple of scenes where I noticed the tiniest bit of film grain. Perhaps the biggest surprise for me was the remastered sound elements. After trying the different sound choices, I found the PCM soundtrack to be the best. I really wasn’t expecting the sound to be that colossal for this movie, but BOY was I surprised. Sony has truly outdone themselves with this latest high def remastering of Life of Brian. This is the absolute best I have ever seen or heard of this zany film. There are details in the relate that I have NEVER seend before, and I have seen this movie MANY MANY times. If I had to complain about anything, it would be that the special features were not in HD, but that is not that expansive a deal since everything else about this title is honest station on.
There are many who would say this movie is a sacrilege. As a Christian, I would disagree with such a statement. I have heard some say that this movie is making light of Jesus’ ministry, and especially his crucifixion. They are missing the whole point. I assume this movie illustrates how some people will blindly follow religious leaders, or will honest go with the crowd without really questioning what they’re doing, or why they’re doing it. The scene where Brian is wrong for Jesus and chased by the crowd is a genuine example. When his sandal falls off, some bewitch it as a notice that they should catch their contain sandal, while some decide to follow the Holy Gourd of Jerusalem. How can anyone NOT gawk the humor in that??? Also, what if there really were some in the far help of the crowd at the Sermon on the Mount who couldn’t quite form out what was being said??? I have seen this movie countless times, and at no point is Jesus ever actually made fun of. Even the crucifixion scene is obviously not a microscopic on Jesus’ acquire crucifixion. Allen Baron spent most of his career directing television dross like The Dukes of Hazzard and Charlie’s Angels–35 years of it, to be accurate. Shot in gritty dim and white on the streets of Manhattan, this dismal, low-budget crime/thriller tells the epic (through a pulp-poetic interior monologue performed by blacklisted Lionel Stander) of a professional hit man, not-so-handsome Frankie Bono (played by Allen Baron himself), suffering from a severe case of existential malaise. With Christmas approaching, he is hired to whack a “second-string syndicate boss” lacking ambition. While plotting the assassination, Bono is recognized by an dilapidated friend from the orphanage, whose happily-married domestic existence forces Bono to confront his hold solitary life. (His hands sweat in the company of other people.) The 77-minute film has an edgy, old, beat quality, with a hip jazz gather. The Criterion edition features a newly restored digital transfer, “Requiem for a Killer: The Making of Blast of Silence,” on-set Polaroids, and a booklet featuring an essay by film critic Terrence Rafferty and a four-page graphic-novel adaptation of the film by acclaimed artist Sean Phillips (Criminal, Sleeper, Marvel Zombies) . I am truly amazed Blast of Silence has not achieved classic cult-film site. Blast of Silence is 77 minutes of time well spent in noir at its best.

This movie was not like any other I have ever seen, but I haven’t seen them all and I haven’t seen all of Cassavetes’ work, which keeps being mentioned in connection with it. Dated? Not to me unless you are referring to the Village Gate scene and I choose to call that “period” rather than “dated.”

I’d recommend this movie to anyone who happens to be reading about it–you are obviously eager in noirs and this, for being a puny past the noir period, is about as noir as you can procure. Unforgettable, too.
The extras on the DVD were terrific. Wish that Criterion Collection movies weren’t so expensive, but I must admit they are worth it.

Julianna Margulies (of past ER fame) and Gabriel Byrne (Stigmata, The Usual Suspects) turn in obedient performances in the fairly average scary movie, Ghost Ship, directed by Steve Beck. It’s worth the sign of a matinee if you can’t resist the seduction of shipwrecks, ghosts, and the sea.
Ghost Ship is about the Antonia Graza, an Italian luxury hover ship that blipped off of radar in the 60s. An pretty ballroom scene aboard the doomed vessel opens the film. This scene has a perfect 60s peek and feel to it, which initially made me wonder if I were in the sinful theatre. It was a far wail from what the previews led me to examine. But I was in the upright spot. Not very long into the movie, we examine a terrifying part of what happened to the crew and passengers. Beck does a suitable job holding viewer interest as the fable progresses, inserting more pieces in the puzzle until everyone sees exactly what happened to the new passengers and what’s going on now.
As the intrigue begins, Gabriel Byrne (Murphy) is the captain of the Arctic Warrior, a derive ship. His crew looks a bit young and not nearly alcoholic enough to be good sea dogs, but they have one thing in well-liked with other come by teams: the adore of like. International maritime law states that it’s “finders, keepers” out there, so when Murphy’s crew is presented with a chance to compose a sizable fetch, the tired but greedy crew decides to climb benefit aboard the Arctic Warrior and head off to the Bering Sea to fetch the Antonia Graza and return with her treasures.

Once aboard, the team splits up to ogle the ship and distinct enough, the fun and suspense commence in earnest. They eye her colossal like, but when they try to offload the booty from the Antonia Graza, it’s obvious she has other plans. That’s when it gets hideous. There are a lot of insensible things on this ship, and she desires that the living would soon join her other tedious captives.
I loved the atmosphere of this flick, with its greenish hues and dismal, creepy dwelling. There’s night, rain, mystery, the sea, and a dazzling tore up ship. Although the ship was never submerged, it looks as though it’s been through quite a battle, with its wiring pulled out and hanging from the ceiling in practically every shot. I know sea air is corrosive, but dang! There’s also a bit of gratuitous language, usually an early tip-off to a lack of purposeful dialogue. Fortunately, when things initiate happening, there’s less swearing and the dialogue moves the narrative forward.

The editor deserves a tip of the hat. Ghost Ship runs about 75 minutes, objective the correct amount of time to effect the yarn and lead to its conclusion without getting submerged in subplots that go nowhere. This movie sticks to the main theme of creepy ghost ship, how it got that design, and what the novel captives must do to derive out with their lives.

Ghost Ship has all the standard creepy special effects and a few stunts that rival those on Anxiety Factor. There are several very frigid, novel special effects as well, and the ending is a lot of fun. Like any scary movie, the plausibility gap is often wide, but the fable moves along at a glorious straggle, keeping you eager to the demolish. I thoroughly recommend Ghost Ship if you’re in the mood for this sort of fare. Bon Voyage!
I decided to ignore most reviews of this film and check it out anyway. I am very satisfied I did. I don’t understand why people reflect its so abominable. Ghost Ship is about a crew who aboard an abandoned ship that went missing in 1962, and was never heard of again. The crew finds it and exclusive things launch to happen. They commence seeing Ghosts, hence the title. The ghosts are the passengers who were brutally killed on the ship, obviously.
The film has a few scary moments and it moves along snappy. There is a major location twist at the extinguish that I did not survey coming at all and I understanding it was intellectual. You can’t comment on the acting of a dismay movie, it’s pointless, but luckily Ghost Ship has a cast of well known, and talented actors such as Gabriel Byrne, Julianne Marguiles, and Ron Eldard. If not for them, the film could have been a lot more cheesy, but I belief the film was spicy, scary, and creepy. The opening scene by far one of the most repugnant scenes in film is worth seeing this film for.
